– Australia Working Holiday,The day and night of Sydney

2019 Update:
Now you can take 2 buses to go to city. From the airport, you can take 400, 420, then change bus and go to central station, bus fare is only $3.66. However, bus 400 is a prepay bus, it means you can only use opal card to pay for the fare
If you haven;t got a opal card, you can buy one in the airport. The minimum top up for the card is $35 for new policy. If you have an opal card, you can top up your card by $10.

---------------------------------

This is suitable for travelers who travel from other cities of Australia to Sydney Domestic airport. Sydney International Airport and Domestic one are separated.

Please see another entry for Sydney International Airport:

There are several ways to leave Sydney Domestic Airport once you arrive Sydney by plane.

If I want to go to city Central station from the airport:

1. Book the shuttle bus in advance (Price around $16)

Advantage: Point to point, it takes you directly to your hotel/hostel

Disadvantage: You need to book and pay in advance, if you don’t have Australian debit card you may need to pay some transaction fee and the different in exchange rate.

2. Train (The minimum fee to city one way is $16.77, the more far away the more expensive)

(Train fare search tool: http://www.sydneytrains.info/tickets/fare_calculator.htm)

Advantage: Convenient and easy to take the train

Disadvantage: This is the most expensive way to leave airport, apart from taxi

3. Bus route 400 ($2.20-$3.66, depend on which bus station you get off) (https://transportnsw.info)

Advantage: The cheapest among the choices (You can go to Bondi Junction/Burwood just paying $. 3.66 )

Disadvantage: If you want to go to city, you need to drop off at the nearest train station Rockdale and then take train to Central (3.66bus +3.54 train = $7-8)

The frequency of the bus is around 20 minutes, and you need to take a train afterwards, time consuming

So if I want to go to Central station what is the cheapest way?

Today I want to teach you the cheapest way for going to the city. So next time if you come to Sydney to travel/study/working holiday/work from other Australian cities or vice versa you can save a lot. But this method you need to walk for around 20 minutes. So if you have bulky luggage please think about whether it is a good idea for you. The route basically is flat and does not have much incline/decline/staircase.

From Sydney Domestic Airport, you have to walk around 20 minutes to train station Mascot which is the nearest station which does not charge you airport region train fee. So if I take train from Mascot to Central station it only costs $3.80. The train frequency in this station is even higher than that of International Airport station and Rockdale station. Near Mascot station, there are also some buses ($3.50) that go to city. You can opt for this option to save even more. They are M20, 310, 309 (http://www.sydneybuses.info/routes/309_20120318_map.pdf), 305 (http://www.sydneybuses.info/routes/305_20120318_map.pdf)

Route:

This is a straight forward route. Just follow the cars at the main road and turn to another street at a right one.

From Mascot to Sydney Domestic Airport

After leaving Mascot train station turn left and then walk straight

After arriving at Coward Street, cross the road and keep walking straight. You will see Qantas building at the right. Walk straight till the end and turn right at O'Riodan Street

You will see Ibis Hotel at your right hand side

Keep on walking straight until you reach the big overhead advertising board

Keep on walking and you will see 'Welcome to Sydney Domestic Airport'. You will pass through Mecedes-Benz shop on your right. Keep walking and you will turn right lastly.

You will see the building on the left of the image. Go to that building as we need to walk under that building

Closer up of the building's appearance

Then follow the signage to walk through the buildings to get to terminal 2 and terminal 3

From Sydney Domestic Airport to Mascot

After arriving in the luggage area, go to carousal 3 and you will see the yellow signage of public pick up

Follow the signage, walk straight after exiting the door

Turn right at here and walk straight

Until there is no road and you are forced to turn left here

You will see Mecedes-Benz shop at your left. Follow the curved path and you will see the busy road intersection. Cross the road and reach the big advertising board

Keep walking straight

Junction, turn left and walk along Bourke Street

Keep walking and you will arrive at Mascot Station

Let's go to the next city of Australia!

Route:

Special things that you will pass by: Park, bridge, airport car park

I tried to walk through the route at night around 8pm. The lights inside the park are very bright. You can even enjoy the view from the bridge.

I will explain a little bit about the routes from the airport to Wolli Creek and vice versa. Basically it is the same route, I will elaborate what you will see while you are on the way so that you can recognize it easily and get to the destination faster.

– Australia Working Holiday,The day and night of Sydney

If you have tried to buy domestic air ticket of Australia, for example, from Sydney to Gold Coast or from Melbourne to Cairns, you will probably go to cheap airline websitse Tigeriar or Jetstar. Usually if you compare and see which one is cheaper you will buy that one.

Let me talk about the characters of each airline first:

Tigerair:
- Thy have special deals every Tuesday
- You need to pay AUD$8.50 booking and service fee for each ticket you buy if you pay online by Credit or Debit Card, unless you have a Master Debit Card (Common Wealth, Bankwest, Westpac). NAB/ANZ/HSBC are all Visa Debit Card.

Jetstar :
- They have special deals every Friday
- They have another airport in Melbourne - Avalon, where it is in the middle of nowhere. But the ticket is cheaper than going to another airport Tullamarine.
-  They have more online payment options than Tigerair. You can pay by Direct Deposit (At least 14 days before departure) or POLi without the fee of AUD$8.5 charge per ticket.

Usually it seems Tigerair is cheaper than Jetstar. However, if you need to pay the booking and service fee, the price is similar.

Solution for getting the cheapest domestic air ticket

There is one way that you do not need to pay the service fee and you can get the cheapest air ticket!
What you need to do is to use Jetstar's Price Beat Guarantee!

You just need to press 'Start Chat' and chat with the staff that you found a flight cheaper than Jetstar (You need to give him/her the link and all relevant information)

It not only gives you the price of the competitors', but also giving you 10% off extra! So you save a lot.

Condition (I just pointed out the most important ones, for further information please refer to the page):

Flights must be:
- Leaving later than 72 hours from when you start the online chat
-  Both flights must leave: Within one hour of each other if they’re domestic flights (Conditions are different for other flights)
- To get your discount, you must buy right away (Providing your card number and the 3 digit code behind the card)

 The competitor flight must be:
- Cheaper than the lowest available comparable fare on Jetstar.com on the same route – the airports of origin and destination must be identical
- Direct and one way

The Jetstar flight you’re comparing must be:
- An Economy Starter fare. We won’t price beat our other fares: Economy Starter Plus, Economy Starter Max, Business Class and Business Class Max fares.
- Direct and one way

As there are many domestic flights within Australia everyday, it is not hard to search a flight that depart within one hour of Jetstar's (on the same route – the airports of origin and destination must be identical).

I helped my friend to buy air ticket Gold Coast - Sydney. I have checked Tigerair's price and it was not bad. But adding the service fee made me feel annoyed. So I searched Jetstar's and found they had flight that depart less than one hour of Tigerair's, same as return flight Sydney - Gold Coast.
Lastly I helped my friend save some money (With Tigerair's price + 10% off)

You can try too! Easy, fast and cheaper. Why not then?

Accommodation

How about accommodation? Airbnb is one of the good choices!

– Australia Working Holiday,The day and night of Sydney

There are many different festivals in Sydney. There are also sports running events. If you are not a professional one, you can still find ones you can join and feel the atmosphere. Of course some of them might still involve some level of fitness. Here are some that I would like to introduce to all of you.

1. Color Run, Color Me Rad

The most well-known one - happiest run in the planet. Participants get colored by powder/liquid and only 5km to walk/run. Many people will dress specially and have fun with their friends/families. There is a big party at the finish line with music and more color powder, people get excited and feel great.
